Who Installs the Pipes on My Property? Can I Do It Myself? | PreConnect

Who installs the pipes on my property? Can I do it myself?

The short answer

You are usually responsible for pipes from your home to the connection point at your boundary.

What work is involved?

A contractor may need to dig a trench, lay pipes, test them, fill the trench and repair the ground.

Can I do it myself?

You may be able to do some work on your land. But digging near buried cables and drains can be dangerous. The work must meet the required standards.

Should I hire a contractor?

We recommend a skilled contractor, especially for wastewater pipes. Poor work can cause leaks or blocked drains.

Who makes the final connection?

Only Uisce Éireann or its authorised agents can connect to the public water main or sewer.

Can PreConnect arrange the work?

Yes. We can help arrange private-side works. This is priced separately from your application.

Need help with your connection?

We prepare and manage single domestic connection applications for one fixed professional fee.
